Palmetto Electric Trust Awards Grant to Meals on Wheels, Bluffton Hilton Head

Palmetto Electric Trust Board, headed by Ernest W. Avant, Chair, awarded a grant to support the purchase of client meals and costs associated with the opening of a second food distribution facility located in Bluffton.

The site was opened in September of last year and reduces the volunteer time to pick up and distribute meals by over one hour. It also provides quicker delivery of lunch meals to the over 100 clients living in Bluffton and Sun City.

“This support is critical,” said Lili Coleman, executive director. “We estimated that we would deliver a total of 48,000 meals by the end of 2024. After seeing the growth in the first quarter, the need has grown to over 60,000 meals by yearend.”

She went on to say that this financial support is critical to the health and safety of our senior, handicapped, and elderly neighbors who are not able to prepare their own meals.
